Argentina Government Legalizes Medical Marijuana Nationwide

Argentina Marijuana

After years fighting for legalization, medical marijuana use has been signed into law in Argentina.

After almost 150 petitions from families living in the country, the Argentine Congress could no longer ignore requests to legalize medical marijuana, reports InSerbia.

Families of children with epilepsy, sclerosis, hypoxia and other serious health conditions told the Argentine Congress their stories. An experiment was conducted with a select group of families to determine how the children responded to CBD oil. Every family that participated in the experiment reported great improvement to seizure disorders in their children . Some families saw seizures stop altogether.

Each Argentine state will have the authority to import and distribute CBD oil to approved patients. Importing CBD oil will be legal in Argentina until the country has the means to produce its own CBD oil.

The Argentine government is authorized to start research and development on CBD oil within its borders.

Ana Garcia, head of the Medical Cannabis (Cameda) Argentina Advocacy Group, said, “We now finally have a legal framework for the use of medical marijuana, which is research, production and eventually distribution and treatment by the marijuana oil for medicinal purposes. There was nothing like this before in our country and it finally took us as mothers and as the organization to make our voices heard.”

Home cultivation will not be permitted. A voluntary registry will be available for those that want to be part of it. If home cultivation is ever permitted in Argentina, those already on the registry would likely be the first to have the opportunity.

Families are already planning to work on reforming the law to allow for home cultivation.
