Virginia Smokable Hemp Bill Heads to Governor Northam’s Desk

Marijuana Coronavirus

HB 962 passed the Virginia Senate by a vote of 37-3. It’s heading to Governor Northam’s desk for his signature to make it law. The bill would allow for smokable hemp products to be sold legally in the state – this includes hemp CBD flower and pre-rolls.

Only those ages 21 and older would be permitted to purchase the products, according to the bill’s language on the Virginia’s Legislative Information System website. This legislation passed as other bills regarding marijuana are being discussed by lawmakers. Bills to decriminalize marijuana possession and create a study commission for legalizing and regulating marijuana are also receiving attention.

Governor Northam has voiced support for decriminalization. He’s not quite on board with full adult use legalization yet.

It’s unknown when Governor Northam will sign or veto HB 962.
