Medical Marijuana Supporters Hold Protest in Southwest Virginia

Cannabis Virginia

Supporters of legalizing medical marijuana in Virginia held a peaceful protest to gain signatures for a new petition. Protesting started on January 1. Supporters plan to continue their protest and petition signature measures throughout the month of January.

The goal of this protest is to have a petition with enough signatures to get the attention of state lawmakers Tim Kaine and Governor McAuliffe, according to WCYB News. Right now, the goal is to obtain a mere 11,000 signatures. On Sunday alone, day one of their efforts, the group reports receiving 100 signatures.

A member of the group said, “This is something that our economy needs. This is something that Southwest Virginia needs and the whole United States needs.”

The peaceful protest and petition signature campaign will be protesting in Southwest Virginia all month long. This weekend’s protest was held in Clintonwood. One of the protestor’s signs read: “Plants not pills.”
