Right-winged Editorial Board Slams Jeff Sessions’ Views On Marijuana

VA Cannabis Law

The Richmond Times-Dispatch editorial board, a long-time center-right philosophy bastion, slammed AG Jeff Sessions’ views on marijuana. The editorial is advocating for the repeal of the federal ban on marijuana. This newfound support is shocking to many.

The article includes quotes that Sessions said when he visited the city last week, according to Patch. It is important to point out that the editorial is not suggestive of marijuana being safe for juvenile use.

Sessions said in Richmond that, “I reject the idea that America will be a better place if marijuana is sold in every corner store. And I am astonished to hear people suggest that we can solve our heroin crisis by legalizing marijuana – so people can trade one life-wrecking dependency for another that’s only slightly less awful.”

To put Mr. Sessions in his place, the editorial made it a point to include that zero Americans have died from overdosing on marijuana while there were 33,000 overdose deaths from heroin and prescription painkillers in 2015 alone.

It also mentioned that, “But to suggest that marijuana use is only slightly better than heroin addiction is simply laughable. America is having an important and sober debate about the degree to which marijuana should be restricted. Too bad Sessions isn’t interested in taking part.”

The online headline was far more direct, as it read “Repeal Prohibition, Again.”
