Virginia Selects 5 Companies to Dispense Medical Marijuana

The Virginia Board of Pharmacy has announced the first 5 companies that will be permitted to dispense medical marijuana. The state was divided into 5 separate “Health Service Areas.” Each dispensary will be allowed to serve a specific service area.

For service area 1, PharmaCann Virginia is the chosen company, according to NBC 12 News. Charlottesville and Harrisonburg are included in this area. PharmaCann Virginia has stakes in both the New York and Illinois medical marijuana markets.

The other companies selected are:

• Dalitso for service area 2
• Dharma Pharmaceuticals for service area 3
• Green Leaf Medical of Virginia for service area 4
• Columbia Care for service area 5

Columbia Care is another big name in the nation’s medical marijuana industry having dispensaries in 9 states, Puerto Rico and Washington D.C.

It is not known when the dispensaries will be operational to assist patients yet.
